East Junior High School
“Education is Our Priority”
We all look forward to the many wonderful experiences ahead. PBIS (Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports) was established to address the behavioral and discipline needs for successful learning and social development of students. The school-wide system includes proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments.
As part of the PBS program, we will establish several clear rules for the behavior we expect in all areas of our school. We will explicitly teach those expectations to the students and reward them frequently with positive notes and prizes for their great behavior. The expectations for all student behavior will be clear throughout our building and playground areas, cafeteria, gymnasium, and classrooms. You will be able to ask your child, “What are the rules in your school?” “How do you follow those rules?” “What happens when a teacher sees you following the rules?”
A system of acknowledgements will help motivate students to try their best and to encourage others as well. One important piece of PBIS is to create a set of 3-5 school rules that are well known to all affiliated with our school. The PBIS team created an acronym, BARK, to help disseminate those rules. Our motto reads…
Be Ready To Learn
Respect Self and Others
Keep Safety First
Recognition will be noted through the acknowledgement system for students who exhibit BARK characteristics at our school. The acknowledgement system recognizes positive behavior in the cafeteria, hallway, classroom, library, gym, and buses. Displays of good character help students to earn “Bulldog Bucks” so they can receive incentives. There will be a PBIS store located upon the campus of East. Students will be allowed an opportunity to purchase items from the store.
We believe that by helping students practice good behavior, we will build a school community where all students have an environment where they can succeed and grow.
